Nowhere warm
Which better song than this one by the Norwegian singer Kate Havnevik should I have named my post after? Yesterday ilGrisa and I finally watched The Golden Compass. We were both really excited because I wanted to see it already one month ago and ilGrisa is a great fan of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy as well as of Nicole Kidman (who isn’t?). I really liked the set and the plot although I needed ilGrisa to understand what was meant with
Long time ago our forefathers made a huge mistake…
I’m going to buy the book as soon as possible because the movie is way too fast and a lot of things happen without any explanation: why, for instance, all of a sudden the school master gives the golden compass to Lyra?
Anyway, I loved a lot of elements of the storyline, like the polar-armored-bears (I want one too!) or the Norwegian far north. Funnily enough, since I bought my first Lonely Planet about Norway, I’ve been attracted by Svalbard and this island plays a big role throughout the movie. Now I’m afraid to be considered like those who go to New Zealand just because it’s where Peter Jackson set his (in)famous movies, especially because I was planning for this summer a big Scandinavian if not Icelandic tour.
After the movie we went to Wagamama to have some udon noodles and then back home where we spent long time by organizing our weekend (we’re going to Antwerp tomorrow) and watching ilGrisa’s pictures taken in Amsterdam: he spent yesterday morning in the Rijksmuseum and the afternoon in the eastern part of the city. Don’t forget today is picture-Friday
which is why I would like to show you some of my friend’s best photos of Amsterdam: one was taken just for me on Nieuwe Spiegelstraat (the bear is so cute, isn’t it?) where the other is absolutely my favorite among his shots.
